Winner Notification of 10th Competition of Young Electricians

Gold for Switzerland, Silver for Austria and Bronze for Germany

Great success of anniversary competition at leading trade fair Light+Building

There were some happy faces for Martin Conrad from Switzerland, Benjamin Dunst from Austria and Dominik Göb from Germany. They are the winners of the 10th European Competition of Young Electricians (CYE), which took place from 7 to 9 April 2008 as part of the world’s key trade fair Light+Building in Frankfurt/Main. After competing for 20 hours it was clear who had best managed the building system installation task based on the KNX standard. The maximum number of points was 280, and the difference between the first three places was not more than 16 points – so the race was neck-and-neck. "It was a unique experience to have been there, with the chance to get to know so many new things" commented European champion Martin Conrad during the award ceremony in the historic Kaisersaal of the Frankfurt Römer.

In 2008, Germany will host the “European Competition of Young Electricians” (CYE 2008). Since 1992, the event has been held every 2 years by the AIE – the “Association européenne des entreprises de l’installation électrique” – which is the international umbrella organisation for professional associations of electrician installation companies in Europe.

The winners of national professional competitions who will not have reached the age of 25 by 2008 are called upon to take part. The competition aims to attract public recognition for the professional activities of young electricians, and also to highlight the high quality of professional training offered by the member organisations of the AIE. Candidates and their accompanying experts from the respective participating countries will furthermore have the | Bild:

opportunity to familiarise themselves with a variety
of working methods, working materials and tools, as well as the applicable technical standards, and to exchange ideas about these with each other.

Thus the 10th young electricians’ European “Champions League” will be held in conjunction with the world’s leading trade fair for lighting, electrical engineering, and house and building automation: light+building 2008, which will take place from 6 - 11 April 2008 in Frankfurt. The patron of the competition is Günther Verheugen, Vice President of the European Commission and EU Commissioner in charge of Enterprise and Industry. The award ceremony will be held on 9 April 2008 in the Emperor's Hall in Frankfurt’s Römer (city hall), on the invitation of the City of Frankfurt.

The competition is organised by the ZVEH – the German Central Association of Electrical and IT Professions which, as the national professional body of the electrical professions in Germany, has its Headquarters in Frankfurt, and is proud to be hosting the competition for the second time (the first time was in 1995). The tasks which participants must complete are being created
and supervised by the ZVEH’s own educational body, the Training and
Technology Centre for Electrical and Information Technology (BZL) in
Lauterbach, Germany.
