In one part of the practical exercise, candidates must work in the field of KNX (the successor to EIB), therefore for the competition each candidate will need his or her own computer with ETS 3 Professional KNX (EIB) software installed.
KNX is the successor system resulting from the combination of the three bus systems EIB, BatiBUS and EHS, and is based on EIB system technology. It is currently the only system that fulfils both European standards (EN 50090, CEN 13321) as well as the international standard (ISO/IEC 14543). KNX is downwardly compatible with EIB, meaning that existing EIB installations can be supplemented with KNX field devices. The technical construction of the bus is based on EIB technology.
KNX is currently the world?s only open standard for home and building system controls, and is now subscribed to by more than 100 companies worldwide. All units are mutually compatible, provided that they can communicate via the relevant media (TP=Twisted Pair, RF=Radio Frequency, PL=Power Line, IP=Internet Protocol). A single manufacturer- and product-independent tool (ETS) allows all KNX products to be set up quickly and simply.
In case of any questions relating to KNX (EIB) / ETS 3, AIE members can now contact the KNX Association directly via the following address:
